Australian soldier Ben Roberts-Smith wiped his laptop days after he was told to retain documents, court told
I have no axe to grind on this matter which will be sorted out by greater minds than mine.
I do wonder, however, exactly HOW was the laptop wiped?
Given Mr Roberts-Smith's defence background, I suspect a tool such as Blancco (among others) configured to the NIST 800-88 standard was used.
If so, the court will never know what was erased.
If not, it may well be the case that the data will be recovered, leading to more headlines like this I suspect.
No matter your industry or profession, it pays to use professionals to ensure your decommissioned devices are securely wiped, and that tamper proof evidence is provided.
Data security - don't take the risk.
