Data Centre Relocation - Server, Network and Storage Device Disposal
Client Challenge
Our client - the Australian arm of a multi-national bank - planned to relocate its network, server and storage infrastructure from two locations (one of its own and one other) to two Equinix data centres – one in North Ryde and the other at Unanderra, 100 km south of Sydney.
The project called for multiple relocation and disposal jobs, all of which scheduled outside of business hours. Many of the relocation jobs were same-day, point-to-point relocations, where multiple devices were required to be shut down, de-racked, securely relocated and re-racked in a single day.
Solution
Interlink utilised eight resources and several different types of vehicles for the various relocation and secure disposal jobs associated with this project.
For the critical, same-day relocation jobs, our resource de-racked the critical devices at the original location, securely packed and transported them to the new data centre, and then re-racked them, working with the client’s offshore network team as they were brought back online.
Once all the relocation tasks had been completed, we deployed teams to the original locations to remove and securely dispose of all the remaining devices.
At the original North Ryde location our secure disposal team de-racked server, network and storage devices from 39 racks.
Hundreds of devices were securely packed and removed from the site without a hitch, together with all of the racks and cables leaving the space clear for the data centre’s next client.

Result
We reported to the client the full asset detail of each device that was disposed of, including an inventory of all storage media. Hard drives were either sanitised using Blancco, degaussed or crushed. The configurations of all the network devices were reset and validation reports were provided.
