Technology Refresh for Multinational Bank

Client Challenge

Refreshing all the end-user devices for 1,600 plus staff was always going to be a challenge. Undertaking the project in the lead up to their Sydney corporate office relocation made it even more challenging.

With the client’s project team increasingly focused on planning and executing the relocation - including selecting and sourcing new technology, internal communications and change management - Interlink was chosen to manage a range of IT asset relocation and secure disposal tasks.

Solution

Our first job was the secure disposal of hundreds of old devices stored onsite that had been building up over many years. We transported these assets to our Sydney facility where they were audited and securely wiped.

We then managed the refresh of the new laptops, docks and monitors to all staff prior to the relocation working to the client’s rigorous schedule leading up to the relocation which took place over three weekends.

Sydney head office relocation a catalyst for refreshing laptops and monitors for 1,600 staff.

Result

Interlink securely recycled or disposed of in excess of 1,200 desktops PCs, 1,600 monitors and 300 laptops and over the course of a 12-month period have diverted more than 29 tonnes of material from going to landfill.

Notably, the value we returned to the client from the sales of their usable assets exceeded our IT Asset Management fees by more than $20,000, providing a welcome boost to the overall project budget.

What the client said:

“Refreshing the end-user devices for our 900 plus staff was always going to be a challenge, but undertaking the project in the lead-up to our 2017 Sydney corporate office relocation made it all the more difficult.

Interlink has proven to be an invaluable partner in this process. We’ve used them to recover, sanitise and remarket our decommissioned PCs, laptops and monitors, and environmentally dispose of all our unusable assets.

We’ve used their comprehensive asset audit reports to maintain our asset registers and configuration management database, and have a unique data sanitisation certificate for every device that‘s been processed, including the device and hard drive serial numbers.

They’ve been able to respond quickly to unforeseen changes in our schedule and have risen to every challenge.

Significantly, the value they’ve returned to us from the sale of our usable decommissioned assets has exceeded the cost of their services, so the whole exercise has made a positive contribution to our relocation budget.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Norman and his team at Interlink.”
